Coachella can be many things for many different people. A choose-your-own-adventure that could end in: A drug-fueled wild night, a nonstop dance party, or just a large congregation with others to worship our savior Beyoncé. But no matter which route you take, there is one universal factor of Coachella that unites all: the heat. So, how do you balance the need to look great ‘gram at any moment with that scorching heat? Beat it with a face beat, my dears. We picked the mind of celebrity makeup artist Neil Scibelli to master makeup looks that can handle the heat but still look cool.
You need to stay hydrated at Coachella and so do your lids. “Liquid eyeshadow is a great way to wear bright, fun pigments on the eyes without having to worry about creasing, reapplying or fading,” says Scibelli, who advises wearing a neutral eye base like champagne, icy pink, or ivory to accompany a bold lip or a bright cheek.

Festival season is the time to experiment with color. Scibelli suggests reaching for purple and other atypical bright hues for Coachella season. “There’s no better time to experiment with hot highlighters to add that extra spark to your complexion,” says Scibelli. Apply a bit of shimmer to your cheekbones and even on the eyelids for the ultimate holographic look.
Hydrating Pops of Color on the Lips
Chapped lips are le worst. If you want color and hydration, get you a product that can do both. Scibelli recommends a Neutrogena lip crayon that comes in a variety of nudes, bright pinks, plums and reds. “The formula will keep your lips smooth and hydrated throughout the duration of your outdoor festivities,” he says.
Prepare for the likely event that you end up showing some skin this Coachella season. “Accessorize with a tinted body product that has a built in luminizer, to give your skin that extra glow,” says Scibelli. Scibelli uses Vita Liberata’s Body Blur in his kit but may we also suggest Rihanna’s new Body Lava.
“If you’ll be dancing in the desert from morning to night, it’ll be important to lock in your makeup look,” says Scibelli. “Setting sprays help to prevent your makeup from creasing into lines and pores and will also keep your foundation from breaking with oil buildup.” If you don’t want your whole face to disappear, make sure to set.
Sunscreen Without the White Flashback
Heading into the Coachella dessert without SPF is a death wish. For protection and beauty, bring a sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white film or undertones behind. How can you master a Insta photo with unwanted product residue? Scibelli recommends a sunscreen with built-in moisturizer so your skin can stay hydrated and protected in the sun. “The Holy Grail brand of sunscreens, Neutrogena, makes a hyaluronic acid infused SPF 50 in a gel form, which protects your skin without any white residue,” says Scibelli. “The moisture boosting hyaluronic acid will draw moisture from the air and help to keep your skin hydrated, with the added protection of a sunscreen.”
